2012 Dodge Ram HEMI, Brand New, 2,000miles, Engine Knock - UPDATE!
depending on the province you are in there is the lemon law. look in to the legal side also. what they are doing is not acceptable. at this point it does not really matter how they fix your issue, you will obviously never by another dodge... saving money for them is stupid because in the long run they are losing out on other purchase you may have done if they would have treaded you properly.
I had a gm vehicle before, it was a real lemon. I understand that having a lemon can append with any brand. its all about how the dealer and the companies behind it helps out. if they cheap out and cut you off or will not help out properly, well you try another brand.
In my case my car was in 10 times for the same issue they replace lots of parts without ever fixing it. and once the warranty went out they no longer wanted to invest in the problem I had to go to court, wish I won because I was in 7 times in the 6 month prior the expiration and GM was involve with the claim + I was only expired by 4 days when they decided they would no longer pay claim even if it was the same problem all along. but because of the problems the bad service on both the dealer and GM I chose not to by another GM.

RE: Engine knocking, 4WD grinding, Brakes squeeling
I never received a call back from the dealer, or Chrysler Canada. So I called CC back and spoke to my REP. Here's the outcome in point form:
- Well, you've been busy havn't you... posting on all your forums and such. (Chrysler Canada - don't try and make me feel bad for posting this on the internet. It's all truth, and it's my story regarding trying to get my truck fixed)
- We think your driving the truck wrong. You can't put it in 4WD WHILE spinning the rear wheels. I corrected him and said the rear wheels were stopped for 15-20 seconds before engaging 4WD.
- If your looking for problems, your going to find them.
- I can't promise to fix your squeeling brakes. Brake squeel is normal, and will happen because your truck isn't broken in yet.
- Engine knocking is normal in this engine, and will find that everywhere. (This is after they already tried to repair knocking and failed. They deemed knocking to be abnormal previously, and now it's normal.
After that conversation I brought the truck to the dealer, and talked with Service Manager. Here's the outcome in point form:
- We won't find any dust under the brake pads causing the squeeling. Sometimes these brakes squeel, and that's normal. Me: They were fine for 4800 KMS, and only started to squeel after getting truck from you.
- I am not convinced you are using 4WD properly. You should already be in 4WD if your in the snow, and shouldn't put it in 4WD after your already stuck in 2WD. If your in 2WD and you spin your wheels, after you come to a complete stop, you can't put it in 4WD or it will grind and clunk.
- I had him in the truck with me while the truck was grinding, and he said the bad grinding noise, and pop out of 4WD is completely normal. Even after coming to a COMPLETE STOP (Nothing moving, or spinning), you can't put it in 4WD without it grinding.

OMG! They are both full of $hit. Though the one is right about not putting it into 4WD while stationary if the rear wheels spinning, you can certainly put it in 4WD when 'stuck' and stationary if the wheels aren't moving. Might be a small clunk at engagement since the rear wheels will slip a small amount before the fronts engage, but no grinding as long as you ease into it. And it should never, ever pop out of 4WD.
Brakes don't squeal because they are 'not broken in'. Have you ever taken a test drive in a new vehicle and had the brakes squeal?
Some amount of tapping noise from the Hemi engine is normal. Depends how loud it is and what you consider knocking. Knocking is normally used to describe premature detonation when running with low octane fuel.

The service manager was in the truck with me. I went into a snowy field in 2WD and got stuck (spun the tires). I then put foot on brake, waited 10 seconds, then put it in 4WD, waited for it to engage, gave it a little gas and it immediately grinded for 3-4 seconds until I came to a stop. Service manager said even when your stopped, the driveline isn't syncronized and it's going to grind and grind. You shouldn't be in 2WD anyway, you should already be in 4WD.
This is a low end knock, coming from Cylinder # 1. Piston was replaced and same knock but alot quieter.

I would go to a different dealer that has a good rep and show up and pretend like this problem just started acting up and see if they can look at it, see what they say.
I would be insulted if that shop manager would tell me what he told you, as if you don't know how to drive a friggen truck.
Seriously, are you being punk'ed!?!? This has to be the most combined asinine response I have ever heard between corporate and a licensed dealership!
If they're really following this situation online, maybe should take some advice from the entourage of opinions that have been expressed. The Hemi does have a bit of ticking sound, (as mentioned) but it shouldn't sound like the random "ping" sound within your latest video.
The whole shenanigans regarding the 2wd/4wd grinding...
"Get real!"
I've never had an issue when engaging at stop lights, or for that matter anytime.
I personally commend you with your patience trying to deal with this absolutely ludicrous service. If your posts represent what's been exposed on other forums, I don't understand their issue with asking advice, you've certainly been given them plenty of opportunities to rectify the situation.

Well as usual, chrysler is doing what it knows and does best... loosing customers.
And then they sit in their little office`s, let their workers get drunk, smoke dope, and wonder why they are last.
Chrysler, if you ARE really reading these forums, i know 2 people right here, that will NEVER buy another one of your products.
I`m one of them, can you guess who the other person is on here...????

I am sick and tired of getting tossed around, with excuses. I have hired a Lawyer to represent me with CAMVAP. The truck goes back into shop on Monday for the last time. If the reported issues don't get fixed, then we will go ahead with CAMVAP, with my Lawyer representing me. The lawyer has also contacted the Finance company, and has an open case with them regarding our pending arbitration.
Chrysler Canada says that grinding from the transfer case, and engine knocking is normal and there is no fix. The truck is performing as expected. My Lawyer and CAMVAP will request a BUY-BACK of the vehicle on the grounds that Engine Knocking, and Transfer Case grinding isn't the norm with a brand new vehicle.
I hope the dealer decides to fix the issues, because I really like the truck otherwise, and would like to keep it.

Do what you have to do. Ram/Dodge /Chrylser or whatever they're marketing themselves as lately is dickin' around with you. They don't and won't fix the problem (every component of any vehicle can be replaced), so take them through every recourse you have available.
Although my truck has been relatively trouble free, the manner in which you have been handled is troubling at best, dishonest at worste and a reason to pause on future vehicle purchase.
Calling what you have is "normal", ridiculing the manner in which you engage 4wd, belittling the forums you post at are worthy of mockery.
Perhaps they will recommend a friction modifier for your knocking - just like they did Lu's open differential...
But if you settle out of court or during arbitration and find yourself barrred from public comment and cease participating in this forum, we'll all assume the best outcome for you.
