1999 Durango throwing P1765 and P0753
Just got a 1999 Dodge Durango donated and I am trying to get it fixed up so we can sell it. It has the 5.2l and 2wd. I have 2 major problems. First is a loud squealing noise coming from the front. There was no power steering fluid in the resovoir but after I filled it up it quieted the pump down while turning but the squealing is still there. I am thinking I might have to replace the whole pump.
Secondly it is throwing 2 codes a P1765 and P0753. I've been searching but have found tons of different answers on those codes. Where should I start in fixing this thing? Thanks

P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
P1765 (M) Trans 12 Volt Supply Relay CTRL Circuit An open or shorted condition is detected in the Transmission Relay control circuit. This relay supplies power to the TCC.
You might be looking at a new pump or a stearing box. Second you need to drop the trany pan and replace the solenoid and look at the wiring on the valve body or you have a bad relay under the hood.

I agree with master tech to fix the relay curcuit first, but I don't think it will fix the P0765. I'm not sure what they are calling shift solenoid A, it soes not have shift solenoids. It has a OD sol, a lockup sol., a governor pressure sol., and a governor pressure sensor. The relay supplies power for all 4 of them and the computer grounds, so for it to be a relay problem it should have a code for all 4 of them and it would not shift out of first gear because gov pres would be set a zero. I will look tomarrow and see what they are calling SSA and get back with you.

On your 1st problem, I didn't read it at first, But if the fluid is low on the power steering. Fill it up and have someone turn the steering wheel to lock to lock and ck for leaks. The early dodge trucks had a problem snapping the p/s pump shaft. If it did that you wouldn't have power steering. Also ck the steering box for leaks too.

thanks for the replies and also thanks for the email I will start checking that stuff out.
As far as the power steering most of the noise that I associate with a bad power steering pump (sound when turning the wheels and accelerating) went away when I filled the fluid. There is a loud squealing sound still coming from around the serpentine belt though and the autozone guys thought that the power steering pump might have bad bearings in it or something even though everything related to it seems fine now. Just don't want to throw parts at it if I don't know for sure they will work.

FIXED THE PROBLEM
figured I would let you guys know. replaced the power steering pump and that fixed the squealing. The codes were both fixed by replacing the pcm for $255 off ebay. I knew it was the pcm because I found out on here that you can take the pink wire from the middle pcm plug and ground it to get it to go into overdrive. This worked for me but its just temporary. anyways beats the dealer just blindly replacing solenoids like they wanted to do. Thanks guys

Hey guys I have that same code and took it to AAMCO and they said electricial problem, but they still wanted to drop my trans. and rebuild it for me. I see you guys are talking about this pink wire there are two that i see in the wire harness. Which 1 do I ground and where do I ground it too ?. Thanks if you guys can help me out I can't afford to have the trans rebuilt for about $2,000. Oh yeah I have a 99 Dakota 4x4 V6.

Want to share what happened to mine.
1999 Dodge ram van 1500, 5.2 V8 engine. Got the same situation, P0753 and P1765, car only run on 3rd gear. Swap a used PCM and car go back to normal. No bother with dropping the oil pan and change the filter and soln. Also, no need to flash the VIN to the PCM. Just directly swap the PCM.
