OK. I just went out to the garage and brought in the tech sheet on the paint. It shows 20 minute minimum and 24 hour maximum to spray clear. I am glad you pointed that out or I may have missed it!

I also checked for orifice size of my spray gun. One is 1.4 and the other is 1.5. The 2K primer data sheet calls for 1.6 to 1.8. I used the 1.4 to spray the 2K with. Could this have attributed more to the orange peel as well?

Also, since its metallic, keep the last coat of color as even as possible to keep uniform color. If you run the color, stop, let dry, wet sand it out with 2000 grit, recoat entire truck (for uniform color), and once covered, clear.
Thank You. I did not know that. Learn something new every day.

That's what I like about this forum...I always learn something. I am a member on a few other forums - Jag, Yota - and don't get fast responses if any, and usually not as much good info. A Jag posting can go for weeks without a response.....maybe we should have a jag and Yota section on here too.....

Its possible. Orange peel in a fact of life when painting. Look at any brand spankin new car, itll be there. If you want the deep "show car" type flat look, spray 4 coats clear, wet sand with 2000 to remove most orange peel, 3000 to finish till flat, then buff. 4 coats should give enough thickness to sand and buff without much worry of going through. You dont want to go too thick on paint though, but I have also seen 3 coats clear, sand with 2000, 3 more coats clear, sand with 2000, then 3000, buff. Looks dam good, just not too sure how long it woud last with that much clear. Although it may be fine.

So I could not remove the nozzle from my Iwata W-71-31G TA spray gun. It just would not budge.....so, knowing I had to remove it, I clamped it in vice and got it out. I knew I would damage it but I did not have soft jaws for vice.....

Nor the problem.....where can I buy replacement 1.5 nozzle without hocking the farm? Even Iwata's website shows only new guns, but not nozzles or other replacement parts.

Give 'em a call, they should be able (and happy...) to sell you what you need.

I may try to call them tomorrow before I hit the highway for work. I am hoping a reasonable cost....only gave $20 for gun at flea market. Was shocked when I found out what they sell for. I would have bought the other 4 or 5 they had!

I was able to get to do some painting today. Basically bagged the front end of truck to keep overspray off instead of standard masking. When I get the rear completed I will bag the back and start working the cab to get inside the edge of doors and rockers. Pulled interior time and door seals today to prep.

Got the last prime on bed and will shoot base this afternoon.

I will not be painting the inside of the bed, but will spray bedliner after truck is painted.

I just went and put my wife's car back in the body shop....a....garage.

I got a bit of light orange peel in the two coats of base I applied today. I am using a black metallic. Can I sand lightly and shoot another coat - maybe add a little more reducer to see if it will flow better?
