Yeah grade 5 would have been sufficient, however I had to get whatever bolts they had, and the only ones to match were grade 8! LOL.

I don't think they are TTY, I think they are just cheap assed chinese bolts... and replacing them really isn't a bad idea.... getting some good grade 5 or 8 bolts to replace them, and THOSE you could reuse.

According to ASME and SAE, TTy bolts are NOT threaded the entire length, and are heat treated on the unthreaded portion of the shank.

All bolts have a torque spec, it's just that not all applications have a spec indicated.

ASTM A307

And grade 8 is certainly overkill, as it is not clamping a significant load in this application....but it won't hurt anything....

Great info gdstock. Yeah I know those were overkill on bolts but that was all my supplier had at the time... Just to clarify for everyone, TTY bolts aren't threaded all the way down, but not all bolts that aren't threaded down all the way are TTY.

I removed the intake manifold and plenum plate yesterday with the fuel rail still attached. Should I clean the injectors while in place? If so, with what and how?

I'd rather not risk cracking an injector so I'm leaving them and the rail in place.

Make sure you post pictures of your actual plenum gasket!!

It's not absolutely necessary to pull and clean the injectors, but certainly would not hurt. If you do that, then you should get new orings that go on the injectors. Very cheap though. Actually, that's all I did was change out the orings.

I would argue it isn't worth the risk of breaking a $50 injector if all I'd be doing is changing the o-rings.

and I will for sure post pictures of the plenum gasket, it clearly blew out at least four areas with only 106,000 miles.

Quick question, I got the hughes kit and it came with red locktite on the plenum bolts. Do I need to add blue locktite to that also? And should I add blue locktite to the intake manifold bolts at all?

Use the Blue loctite on the belly pan bolts and the manifold bolts. NEVER use the Red on any aluminum part because if you ever have to remove it you'll pull out the threads as you unscrew the bolts. Ask me how I know...lesson learned the hard way.

The bolts CAME with red locktite on them from hughes for the aluminum plenum plate into the aluminum intake manifold...

+1 that's hughes' doing and I don't mind, last thing I would want is for one of those bolts to work their way loose and drop in the valley!
