5.9 Rebuild on the cheap: Now Just Empty Every Pocket build.
OK I screwed something up when I installed the oil pan. The new gasket has little taps that fit up into the block but every time I would get the gasket up there it would fall back out. So I'd set the gasket on the pan and put it up there. But I must not have gotten something right because I've now got an oil leak when I rev the engine up.
So what did I miss when installing the gasket?
Pulled the oil pan again and HOPEFULLY got the gasket installed correctly this time. Tried to get the gasket to stick to the block but everything I tried didn't work. Tried High Tack first and used a couple of bolts to hold it up but it didn't stick. Then tried some Right Stuff but again no joy. Then I tried to get it to stick to the oil pan and it did somewhat. Then used some aligning pins to help guide the pan & gasket in place. That windage try makes it more of a PITA to get it in place without knocking the gasket off.
It's all back together AGAIN and fingers crossed I got the leak fixed. Won't know until later as the oil I'd just put into it was diluted with fuel from what I think was a bad tune. Right before I'd dropped the pan the first time to change the oil pump I had installed the new tune that FRP had sent me. Then I'd tried to start the engine to warm up the oil so that I could drain it but I could barely get it to run and it was back firing through the exhaust. Then after I'd changed the oil pump and added the new oil I couldn't get it to start & at one point had raw fuel coming out the exhaust. Had to pull the plugs and clean them plus cranked the engine to clean out the cylinders. I'd hoped I'd caught it soon enough that I could reuse the oil but it's got a pretty strong fuel smell.
I'm still getting a Check Engine light from 2 injectors throwing codes. I found a set of Accel 32lb injectors on Ebay for $225 so bought them. They will hopefully be here next week but until they arrive I'll do a little more testing to see if I can identify what is wrong. I keep meaning to test the injector ohm readings and double check my wiring but then get sidetracked doing something else.
Got to pick up new oil & a filter in the morning and can then run the engine again and check for any leaks.
Do you have good oil pressure now??? Or haven't run it long enough to see?
Took it out for a quick drive today. Thought at first I'd had it fixed but by the time I got back to the house I had low oil pressure again so there is something else wrong whit the engine. What has me confused is that I use to have good oil pressure but somewhere along the way during all the times I've had the engine apart I lost that good oil pressure. And I for the life of me can't figure out WHY or WHAT I could have done while replacing the intake or the rockers that would cause it to have low oil pressure.

Fresh oil in the engine right now. 15-40 wt BTW not breakin oil anymore. But yes the oil was diluted and had fuel in it.
Are there plugs in the ends of the oil galleries? Maybe one is coming loose? I would think if it were at the back of the engine, you'd have a puddle on the ground, and it would be obvious. I *think* there are a couple on the ends of the oil galleries for the cam/lifters at the front as well, and if one of those loosen up, it would bleed pressure inside the engine, and you would never see it. There are likely plugs elsewhere in the block as well...... If you have a naked one layin' about, wouldn't hurt to have a look, see where they all are.
Attached are some A engine oiling system modifications. This may help with some of the areas to check on your engine.
I'd read that before but some where along the way when I was starting the build on my engine I was told I didn't need to do this stuff. But thanks for it was it will help me to know where to look.
Here's my quick road test from today. It was dang nab cold out there.
Just a thought but did you check the clearance between the pick up and the bottom of the pan? You can use a piece of clay to do this but cover the pick up with a plastic bag to keep the clay out of it.

What would this tell me? Are you saying the pickup is too close to the bottom of the pan? If that was the case, then why did it have good oil pressure to start with?
