am i correct in understanding that 4 x 50 watt resistors would be wasting 200 watts at all time from the electrical system?

I am guessing if it does waste 200+ watts that it isnt enough to care about?

 

That is correct but you still arent really losing anything because you were using that same amount of power when you had OEM bulbs. So essentially, you are neither gaining or losing.

 

keep in mind only your high beam or low beams are on at one time... so that 200 watts can be cut in half..

also those resistors you buy are rated for 50 watts each.. that is not what they actually consume. If you do the math a 6 ohm resistor burns approximately 35 watts of power running on a circuit at 14.4v... so really at one time your resistors are eating about 70 watts of power and your HIDS while on are only pulling maybe 4 amps each after they start up.. so in the long run your not putting any extra load on the vehicles electrical system... maybe by 10-20 watts but that's nothing.

 

I hooked up both my HID kits today. The 9008 (H13) Bixenon kit and my 9006 Xenon kit in my 2007 Dodge Ram.

When I turn on my fog's and low beams, everything works fine. But when I turn my hi-beams on, the actuators on the lights don't change, they just flutter for a split second. I wired in the 50 watt resistors as I was told. Then when I go back to my low beam's, sometimes all the lights do not come back on. I usually only get 1 head and 1 fog, both on opposite sides. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Also, I live in Canada and I have DRL's that are on whenever my truck is moving, no matter if I have my headlights on or not. Does this matter?

If you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Drls always screw with hids. Does your truck have a wire for drls and then two more for low and high beam? Or is the drl wire the same as low beam?

 

My headlights are H13 (9008) and they are a 3 wire plug. I am pretty sure that the DRL's are on the high side.

 

One wire is low beam. One is high beam and the other is ground. You can take a meter or test light and probe to see where the low voltage drl is at.

 

I just verified its on the high side (hi beam)

 

drls have always been an issue for our canadian friends. seems your may be no different. however, with the engine off but the key on, see if you can duplicate the issue. lastly, try disconnecting the high beam wire fro the oem headlight sockets and see how the lights perform
