Don't bother replacing the front carrier, just get thick cut gears. They will bolt on to the stock carrier.
Check out Randy's Ring and Pinion as well as EBay.... not so very long ago, a member here got gears and install kits for right around 500...... (didn't include a locker though.)

Oooh thank you! I didn't know that's what thick cut meant. I will look for that then.
All I see is reverse/thick... Is that what I want? I don't really know what reverse cut means... I assumed that was for high pinion axles?
What's really killing the budget is the Detroit. I priced everything else up and I can do it all for around $585... but then I gotta add $620 for that locker... Hopefully I will come across a good deal somewhere.

Reverse rotation is for the high pinion fellers. Yep. Thick cut is what you want. (but, not reverse rotation....)
Yeah, they are pretty proud of those lockers, and that is reflected in the price. You could try looking for one on the used market.... (craigslist, etc.)

That's what I thought. Unfortunately I think the only company that makes thick cut dana 60 gears (in standard rotation) is Nitro gear, which is East Coast Gear Supply's brand. And they sold their last set of thick cut 4.88's in 2010. Bummer. If I wanted 5.38's I could get 'em though... You got any magical links up your sleeves?

Here's one. Can probably find more (with maybe a better price....) I used Dana 60 4.88 thick as my search terms in google. Came up with a LOT of links.

I just did the exact same search and every link was for reverse cut.... except that one. However for that price I may as well get a regular gear set and a carrier.
Found anything in the sub $200 range? That's what the motives I was looking at were listed at...

I found a guy in houston with a D60 30 spline 4.56+ detroit for sale for $350. Apparantly some guy is slacking on the money delivery, but rest assured if the other dude doesn't get on the ball I will be buying it. Hopefully for more like $300...
