I think K&N kits are more for the less restrictive filter element... and yes the factory intake does draw from the fender, but is the air in that cavity baking in the sun going to be cooler than air straight in through the grill?

Finally! New heater core, heater hoses, dash, and instrument cluster bezel. I got the heater core just in time -- the heat output has been crap for a while, but it just started weeping enough to dampen the foam on the bottom on its way to a full on leak. One of the g'dammits at the top of the firewall that holds the instrument panel went pop-zing-clink well before the screw got up to 28 inch-pounds of torque and the other three were cracked, so real soon now I gotta hit the dealer up for four new ones. Oh well...

I found a roll of quarters from a Las Vegas casino inside the instrument panel. Bonus! Great output from the heater and ten bucks, too.

For future reference: If you're doing the heater core replacement and not draining the A/C so have precious little wiggle room atop the HVAC box, hacking the tubes off of the old core with a cut-off wheel makes it a cinch to get the core out. Just shove the old tubes out through the firewall and lift the core. Easy breezy.

I'm officially too old for that crawling around under the instrument panel crap. I'm feeling it in a big unpleasant way.

Many thanks to zman17 for that pristine bezel that I've had for nearly a year and only just installed. Hey, Z-Man, got an unbroken drink holder you want to get rid of? Once I get that, my entire instrument panel will be reet and compleat.

I unplugged the backup light plug from the transmission and wired in a toggle switch, got terminals and cover for an identical plug, and plugged the backup light pigtail into the new plug in for the switch on the dash. I have backup lights again!!! the backup light switch is good, it just doesn't get engaged by my new transmission for some reason an during winter/rain season with tinted rear windows...I NEED my backup lights.

Had my tires rotated and balanced w/ rubber beads, then found out my rear wheel seals are shot so they need to be replaced soon...looks like headers are set back for a bit.

The fact is there is a plenty of air circulating in the fender when the truck is moving. Look, you got CAI. Enjoy it. It won't improve your mileage and it won't give you more power since the factory CAI is as efficient as the engine can use. So, you don't need anyone else's approval. But, it will not give you any benefit at all, except the satisfaction of knowing you have CAI and some bragging points.

just get an open elements air cleaner and call it done. you may not get a ton of cold air but there is no replacement for the amount of air it will let your engine suck in.
