Hemi Swap 1yr Plan
Sooo, what's the update on this? I haven't been on here for a few months and I see that your signature says Hemi swap underway. I also have a Hemi sitting on my shop floor that needs to be put in sometime in the fall. Hope to have a lot more information by then?
Well, I haven't started yet, but I will have the house to myself for a solid month in July, that's when the heavy work will happen. But I plan to start it sometime before then. I think I will park the truck for good in a couple weeks and start draining the fluids. It's a good thing too.. Shes overdue for an oil change, the spark plugs are about worn down to nubs, and gas is going up. Time for a brand new, equally efficient, more powerful motor. Hopefully much more powerful. This thread will be very pic heavy at that point.
I'll be rollin in style with my wife's kia for a while lol, 2 cylinders less and 2 liters less, or 3 depending on how you look at it.
Anyways, keep checking in, I think its gonna be awesome.
I have half'a mind to put the truck under the knife Monday night. It will be a slow job, but I'll keep it pic heavy. Hopefully get some interest back in the hemi swap idea. 'Specially for those who already have a hemi waiting like sleds.
Made a little more progress in the tear down today, got the fan and accessories off and ziptied the wiring harness out of the way and labled all the connectors. I will definitely need to modify the fuel line, since the hemi fuel rail has a bigger nub on it.
I'll be borrowing a hoist hopefully in the near future, then I'll be putting in the torque converter and test fitting the hemi to see what exactly needs to be done to the motor mounts.
Will probably be getting some elbows for my ratchet tomorrow to try and get the transmission bolts and structural plate loose. It's going to be hell I think, they are very hard to get to.
Does anyone know if there might be an easier way to get the motor loose from the trans? I was hoping not to have to touch the trans, other than the bolts on the bell housing. But like I said, they are hard to reach.
