Ok, I have to admit, It looks like there are some pretty cool features on the way. When you folks release the new update, I just may consider trading for a 3865 again.

Hey Sil, how long does beta testing typically last before the new programming is integrated into the production programming?

Jason,

They are figuring out how to apply it to production as they go through this process. Since they've made some pretty significant changes to firmware and calibration code, it's going to require some work to go live with the features. Example: The WOT shift fix will have to be applied to production. That means, even folks who don't have a 3865 or 3950 will benefit from that change.

I would love to say "this is the set time for release", but I wouldn't want folks to be disappointed. The process is definitely moving along, as 04-05 is now being addressed.

This is not just a couple of sliders and a few choices. You have full control of upshifts in every gear as well as downshifts for every gear based on throttle position. Plus similar control for tq management. It's not just a yes or nor option. Tq mgmt is user adjustable, in every gear based on throttle position. We're talking about 5 or 6 upshifts positions per gear, 5 or 6 downshift positions per gear, and similar for tq mgmt. All with large scales for each of these choices. The combinations are *******ly limitless and it's going to take sometime before any of us can give definitive answers.

I will be getting up at 6am tomorrow so I can get a few hours of "play time" with the tuner.

Once you get some time in on setting up the shift points do you think you could post up your shift schedule so the rest of us have something to go by once we get our hands on the tranny features?

Feedback from my testing. I think I'm the only 2500HD Megacab 4x4.

These are the settings I have:
Rev Limiter: 6250
Speed Limiter: 140
WOT 1-2: 5700
WOT 2-3: 5750.
My Truck: 2007 RAM 2500HD MegaCab SLT 4x4

After the initial release of the software (9/4/09), I started by loading PT 1-4 up/down RPM Friday evening and BOY DID IT KICK A$$. However, I wanted to start from a known state so Saturday morning I changed all settings to "Superchips". (Three options for each setting Stock, Superchips, and User.) The truck seemed somewhat sluggish after but I want to run it a bit to see if it feels better.

It’s been a week now and YES there is a better feel. (My son’s Blazer is in the shop and he’s been driving my truck to work so I’ve not driven it for a few days.) My next step was to record the current values so I can track changes in a spreadsheet. I changed all settings from Superchips to User and simply recorded the “default” values for each parameter. I do not know if the “default” values are left over from “Superchips” or if “User” has its own set of default values? Or, are they the Stock defaults?

As you look through the values below, you’ll notice what may be anomalies and I’ve highlighted those values.

Errors were returned for ODrive Off Shift Sch.:
• Shift 4 dn – “Select User shift schedule to modify”
• Shift 3 dn – “Select User shift schedule to modify”
• Shift 2p dn – “Select User shift schedule to modify”
“User” was selected for all shift points.

Enhancement request: Is it possible to show the current tranny set-points with the “View” option?

Menu selections:
• Shift Schedule
o Select Shift Sch.
• Shift 1 up
• Shift 2 up

Menu selection:
• Torque Management
o Select Trq. Tables
 WOT Trq. Mgt
• Gear WOT TrqMgt. (table here has an entry for 1st gear through 4th gear)
 Part Trq. Mgt
• Part 1 up
• Part 2 up
• Part 3 up
• Part 4 up

Here's a look at one of my tables. As you see the values for my calibrations are incorrect and have been forwarded (By Sil) to the engineers.

Columns 1 and 2 in the tables below are the values on the display screen. Columns 3, 4 and 5 are from the modification screen.

Menu selection:
• Shift Schedule
o Select Shift Sch.
 UpShift: User (changed from Superchips)
 DnShift: User (changed from Superchips)
 Save and Exit
• % Shift 1 up mph
% MPH Set Point Range from Range to
0.000 0.667 0.667 0.178 1.023
11.76 0.756 0.756 0.178 1.246
18.03 1.023 1.023 0.178 1.513
23.92 1.112 1.112 0.178 2.047
25.80 1.602 1.602 0.178 2.581
44.70 2.314 2.314 0.178 3.916
59.60 2.625 2.625 0.178 4.583
100.0 2.625 2.625 0.178 4.583
• Save Exit
• Reset Stock

Here's an example of an anomaly: Set point is outside the allowable range.
From ODrive Off Shift Schedule
• % Shift 2p up mph
% MPH Set Point Range from Range to
0.000 1.958 1.958 8.366 2.848
6.667 1.958 1.958 8.366 2.937
25.88 3.471 3.471 8.366 6.541
44.70 5.295 5.295 8.366 6.897
100.0 5.295 5.295 8.366 6.897

Another example, this is from Shift Schedule
• % Shift 2p dn mph
% MPH Set Point Range from Range to
0.000 0.623 0.623 0.623 0.623
31.37 0.623 0.623 0.623 0.623
31.37 1.290 1.290 0.623 0.623
52.15 2.314 2.314 0.623 2.314
54.51 2.981 2.981 0.623 2.981
100.0 2.981 2.981 1.958 4.405

A note I sent to Sil last evening:
After an exchange of e-mails, Sil called me this evening and we talked for a while about the numbers I'm seeing. They certainly aren't what they should be so he suggested a couple of tests for me to try.

One was to Reset All on Shift Schedule, Low Shift Schedule and ODrive Off Schedule to see if that may correct the numbers - It did NOT. His next suggestion was to change a value Save it then see if I exited and came back to it, did it change: No it remained the same as I had changed it.

OK, so I thought I'd go the next step and return my truck to Stock then re-tune it to 91 Perf to see if that made a difference. The values are still out in left field however, they did change slightly from what I have in my Word document.

And another today:
Sil here's the SN: 1443301 and my calibration file is: 05094516AG.

Here's a bit more on my testing today...

Yes, I did notice the down shift from 5 to 4 with the beta software when at 57 MPH and neutral throttle. My shift schedules were set to Superchips at the time. I switched back to Stock shift schedules, ran the truck about 20 miles and didn't notice the down shift but it may have been too soon after the change. I was given an 001 tune a little over a year ago for this down-shift problem but, I asked to have it removed a few months later because I wanted the new functions that were available for the 3815.

I then set the shift schedules back to Superchips so I could datalog the event when it happens again. I'll try again later and for sure tomorrow. One thing I noticed is Superchips shift schedules have an increase of 200 RPM over Stock shift schedules. With Stock shift schedules at 57 MPH is about 1550 RPM at 22% throttle. With Superchips shift schedules at 57 MPH is about 1750 RPM at around 20% throttle. I'm not sure what this is telling us though and is fuel consumption a wash between the two?

I also had a "failure" of the tuner while changing shift schedules from Stock to Superchips. I had changed both Shift Schedule and Low Shift Schedule from Stock to Superchips (after changing both Up and Dn shifts to Superchips I did a Save and Exit before going to the next shift schedule - I don't know if it makes a difference but I held the down arrow for a few seconds to see if it would scroll to the bottom to Save and Exit; it didn't so I pressed the down arrow however many times to get to the bottom) and when I pressed the down arrow on the tuner to change ODrive Off Shift Schedule the tuner did what I'll call a power down reset. That is, the screen blanked out and the normal power-on screens followed. Since the key was on, I turned it off, restarted the tune, changed OD shift schedule from Stock to Superchips and re-tuned my truck without issue. I did not unplug the tuner between the power-down reset and the re-tune and the connection was well seated so I don't believe it was a connection problem.

I'm sure I'll be getting another beta release soon...More to come!

Thanks Mark.

We're having a little issue with Mark's program. Perfect example why this isn't going to be rushed. The engineer will look at this tomorrow.
